The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is promoting a BSc degree course in sustainable rural development which is being delivered entirely on-line.  There's also a range of short courses designed for people already working in community development in rural areas.

The course includes modules on topics such as project planning; tourism and the environment; development policy and local economic development.  Some of these modules are grouped into different awards as part of a short course and you can study for a sustainable development award; a social and community development award and a community participation award, amongst others.

You can find further information on both the degree course and the short courses on the UHI website.
