The Scalpay Community Land Steering Group is looking to commission a feasibility study to consider whether community ownership of the island would help meet identified community needs.
The owner of Scalpay, Fred Taylor, has written to all island residents offering to transfer the Scalpay Estate into community ownership, free of charge. The community have since elected a steering group to examine the various options for future community ownership and management. The feasibility study will need to consider the economic, social and environmental potential of the island, to see if a transfer would be of benefit to local people.
