A ceremony took place on 27th July 2011 to mark the official transfer of Tormore Forest to the Sleat Community Trust.
The Trust raised £330,000 to purchase the 440 hectare forest from Forestry Commission Scotland. A community forester has been appointed to develop a range of projects which will hopefully generate income which can be used for community development projects. Initial work is likely to focus on harvesting timber to open up the forest, replanting native species and developing access opportunities within the woodland.
