Machrihanish muddle continues

The plot continues to thicken around the potential purchase of Machrihanish air-base by the local community.

After a valuation of £1 (see previous article), the Machrihanish air-base purchase has hit a new stumbling block.   Scottish Ministers have refused their right to buy application, citing a number of concerns with the handling of the community ballot.  In that ballot, 97.4% of voters voted yes to the purchase, with a turnout of approximately 67% of voters.  However, in their letter of refusal, Ministers have highlighted a number of issues with return dates, the ballot question and the information supplied to voters.

Next steps from the Machrihanish Airbase Community Company are unclear at the moment - watch this space for further updates.
