Raasay house rebuild

Raasay House on the Isle of Raasay was taken over by the local community in 2007, but was damaged by a major fire earlier this year.  Work is now beginning on stabilising what's left in preparation for a re-build project next year.

The building is owned by the Raasay House community company and was being upgraded to provide new facilities for the tenant (Raasay Outdoor Centre) and as a community asset.  Most of that upgrading work went up in flames in January 2009, but the community company remain determined to see the project through.  The present hope is that after stabilising the building, rebuild work can begin in earnest, aiming for completion by the end of 2011.  You can find further information about the project in the Highlands and Islands Enterprise press release about the stablisation works.
