Two community run ferry services have launched again for the summer: the Jura Passenger Ferry, owned and operated by the Isle of Jura Development Trust, and the Glenelg to Skye ferry, run by the Isle of Skye Community Interest Company.
The Jura ferry, which takes 12 passengers, runs from Tayvallich in Knapdale, direct to Craighouse on Jura. The journey time is around an hour each way, which is significantly quicker than the circuitous Tarbert - Islay - Jura car ferry route. This year, the ferry will be operating from April 9th through to September 29th, with two departures most days, except Wednesdays. You can find full timetables and ticket information on their website. The Skye crossing from Glenelg takes approximately 20 minutes and there are crossings throughout the day, seven days a week. Further details and ticket prices can be found on their website.
