Two stories related to making money from woodlands........
The Community Woodlands Association (CWA) held a three day timber products seminar in Milton Community Woodland, Ross-shire in August 2011. The seminar focused on products which could be developed from woodlands and which could be marketed jointly under the CWA banner. There's a report from the seminar which is available for download from the CWA website and there's also a follow-up Woodland Products event planned for October 15th in Jedburgh.
Elsewhere, Forest Research, the research 'arm' of the Forestry Commission has produced a report looking at the barriers and challenges facing different types and models of woodland-related social enterprise. You can download a copy of the report here.
Finally, if you think your community woodland has been a roaring success, now you can enter it for the Community Woodland Association annual awards. There are four categories: Best environmental project; Best education and training project; Best arts, culture and heritage project and Best employment and business project. Nominations need to be submitted by October 31st, 2011 and you can find further details here.
