A group of forestry specialists have called for a new approach to forestry in Scotland.
The Forest Policy Group, whose members include Scottish Native Woods and the Community Woodland Association, has suggested that Scotland needs more small, locally owned, productive woods of mainly native trees. They've highlighted nine action points for the Scottish Government to help create more local woodlands. These include simplifying the Scotland Rural Development Programme funding process (I'll second that one!); revisiting land reform policies to encourage community ownership and promoting the National Forest Land Scheme more widely.
The group have submitted their suggestions to Richard Lochhead MSP and asked him to consider their action points. If you'd like to read their full report, contact their policy officer, William McGhee.
