Western Isles community energy companies connect to grid

Six community energy companies in the Western Isles have received the welcome news that they'll be able to connect to the National Grid sooner than expected.

A total of eleven turbines from Galson estate in north Lewis down to Barra and Vatersay will be able to connect to the grid in the near future, rather than waiting years for a new subsea cable.  The companies are being represented by a co-operative, Ecoheb, whose chairman, David Wright commented that the developments showed the community sector could now compete with the big multinationals.
