The most recent round of funding from the Scottish Government's Climate Challenge fund includes an award to 'Community Powerdown' - a consortium project from 27 community groups, Community Energy Scotland and the Development Trust Association Scotland.
The Climate Challenge funding will allow project officers to be appointed in each community, helping to drive forward each area's plans to show how communities can develop whilst also reducing their reliance on fossil fuels. Examples of planned actions include the promotion of local food allotments and markets; community energy audits and the restoration of old hydro power schemes. Information from the work will also be passed onto communities outwith the consortium, so that the whole community sector should be able to benefit from the expertise built up during the project. To find out more about the communities and actions involved in Community Powerdown, go to the Community Energy Scotland website and to find out about the other projects awarded funding from the Climate Challenge fund go to the Scottish Government's website.
