The Scottish Government has published their Crofting Reform Bill, which they claim will "tackle absenteeism, neglect and speculation and protect crofting for future generations." The Scottish Crofting Federation have given the bill a cautious welcome, but they've also convened a working group to scrutinise it and seek amendment to some aspects. The bill includes proposals for a new, map-based croft register; changes to the Crofters Commission structure and various actions to tackle speculation on croft land. The bill will now be examined by the Scottish Parliament's Rural Affairs and Environment Committee who will take evidence from crofting stakeholders before producing a report for debate. You can find a full copy of the bill here.
