The Scottish Crofting Foundation (SCF) recently held their annual gathering, whilst the Crofters Commission have put their Gaelic plan out to consultation. The SCF's annual gathering took place in Grantown-on-Spey this year and included the Environment Minister, Roseanna Cunningham MSP, as a keynote speaker. She told delegates that the Government was withdrawing the requirement that houses built on former croft land be used as main residences, as mooted in the Draft Crofting Reform bill earlier this year (see previous article). However, she reiterated the Government's commitment to tackling property speculation on croft land and confirmed that they would continue to seek ways to keep the land affordable for potential crofters. You can find further details in the the SCF press release here.
Meanwhile, the Crofters Commission have published their Gaelic plan, which will be available for consultation until November 4th, 2009. You can download a copy here.
