For those who like to keep up to date with happenings south of the border, the Localism bill has received royal assent and become the Localism Act.
The Act gives communities rights to bid for land and take over local authority services. Under the Act, local authorities will need to maintain a 'register of assets of community value'. If one of these assets is put up for sale, a period of six months must be given to allow local groups to put together a bid if desired. However, it doesn't give community groups first refusal when assets come up for sale.
