The Scottish Agricultural College (SAC) have published a report which looks at the impact of community land ownership in rural Scotland.

Dr Sarah Skerratt from SAC's Rural Policy Centre visited 16 communities in her hired campervan and interviewed, amongst others, community groups in Assynt, Knoydart, Rum and Gigha.

Her summary report of the research has now been published and concludes that community land ownership is helping to strengthen rural Scotland.  In particular, she highlights how it is contributing to the 're-peopling' of rural areas by giving communities the opportunity to develop income streams and create local employment.  But she's also picked up on some of the challenges, including the need for effective communication between boards and communities and transparent decision making.

You can download a copy of the report here, or you can read the blog posts from Sarah's Highlands and Islands tour here.
