Despite much trumpeting of community buy-outs in paper's introductory article, only one community based organisation makes it into the top twenty landowners list - Stòras Uibhist. The remainder of the list includes individuals like the Countess of Sutherland and Donald Angus Cameron and organisations such as the RSPB and the National Trust for Scotland. Stòras Uibhist manages most of the islands of Benbecula, Eriskay and South Uist, with a total landholding of approximately 37,651 hectares. According to the statistics used by The Scotsman, about 1% of Scotland's land area has been transferred to local communities. You can find the introductory article for the series here.
