This thread discusses the content article: Bute backs a buyoutnnWell it's a shame I only get round to reading Saturday's paper on the following Thursday, but when I did, I discovered Ian Jack's comments on the Bute buyout proposals. In the past, I've found his opinions sometimes agreeable, sometimes not, but this is an interesting piece that raises more than a few questions about community land ownership in Scotland. It might not be a combination that often springs to mind, but an academic paper has been published recently which looks at the influence of religious factors on modern Scottish land reform.

Residents in the South Lochs area of Lewis have voted 195 to 87 in favour of seeking to buy-out the common grazings on the Pairc estate where they live.
