Community Land Scotland (CLS) held their first conference in Harris on the 29th & 30th March 2011. CLS was recently established as an umbrella organisation to represent community land-owning groups (see previous article). Their two day conference involved 74 delegates who participated in a series of workshops, presentations, discussion sessions, a parliamentary hustings and a field trip. Feedback from these sessions and from the conference evaluation will be used by the CLS directors to help establish their priority actions for the year ahead and beyond.
An early scan of the feedback showed interest in the continuation of CLS’s representation role; promotion of the benefits of community landownership; provision of adequate funding for land purchase and support for public land transfer at zero or minimal cost.
New activities suggested include developing and defining a research agenda and developing a code of good practice. A report on the conference and an evaluation report will be sent out to delegates.
