Scottish Environment Link have published a report entitled 'Living with the land', which offers suggestions and thoughts for Scotland's Sustainable Land Use Strategy, due to be produced by 2011.  The Scottish Government is also organising a series of discussion workshops as part of the process of preparing the strategy.

The Sustainable Land Use Strategy is required under section 57 of the Climate Change (Scotland) Act and, although its main purpose is to tackle climate change, Scottish Environment Link believe the strategy also offers potential to deliver other public objectives.  They've outlined a vision of sustainable land use in Scotland which is based on resilient and adaptable systems; delivers environmental objectives, social justice and economic stability as well as contributing to climate change mitigation and adaptation.  They also suggest that community involvement must be one of the key principles underlying the strategy.  To read their thoughts and ideas, download a copy of the report here.

Meanwhile, as the Scottish Government gears up for producing the strategy, they've organised a series of discussion workshops around the country to gather stakeholder views.  The workshops are all free and you can find further details, including booking information here.
