From April 1st, charities in Scotland will be able to register as Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisations (SCIO). The new set-up will allow charities to be corporate bodies without also needing to register at Companies House. The set-up was included in the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, with more detailed regulations put before parliament in January 2011. From April 1st, charities will be able to apply to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) to be registered as corporate bodies with limited liability. You can read the new regulations, which set out how the organisations should operate, here.
