The Isle of Eigg are one of three communities who have shared a £1million prize in the Big Green Challenge, whilst the Argyll island of Easdale are one of the fourteen finalists in the Scottish Gas Green Streets initiative.

The Eigg community have reduced their carbon emmissions by 32% over the past year, an impressive feat which was recognised by the Challenge judges.  They also commended the group on their innovation and the extent of community engagement in the project.  The two other winning projects were a community renewable energy scheme in Wales and an environmental survey service in Shropshire.  You can find further information on all the projects on the Big Green Challenge website.

Meanwhile the island of Easdale has won £130,000 in the Scottish Gas Green streets competition which will be used to help fund a number of measures to reduce their carbon footprint.  You can find out more about their plans on their website.
