A group of students and professors from Kentucky University will be visiting Gigha, Jura and Bute to learn more about how rural groups in Scotland are regenerating their own communities.

The link has been established by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and the students will be looking at different issues in each location.  On Jura they're expected to focus on alternative energy provision and croft development, whilst on Bute they'll look at getting local products to market and on Gigha they'll be investigating social infrastructure and how communities work together.  Kentucky University is located in a rural state so the group also want to gather information on how Scotland's communities are making best use of their land assets.

You can read more about the students and their island visits in the HIE press release
