The final report of the Commission of Inquiry into the future of civil society has just been published by the Carnegie UK Trust.

The report suggests that civil society (defined by the inquiry as where people come together voluntarily for actions beyond government and business) has been pushed to the margins in recent times by both commerce and the state.  It then goes on to look at four areas where civil society can help, including the transition to a low carbon economy and the development of a more participatory democracy.  It also cites some Scottish examples of effective community action, including the Gigha Community Trust.

You can download both a summary and the full report here.
