Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is launching a new programme of support for rural communities.

The initiative is designed to facilitate locally employed community development workers who will assist with community consultation and training as well as working with local groups to take forward projects.  The first communities to take part in this process are being identified through local community planning partnerships and HIE anticipates that around forty full- and part-time posts will be needed across the Highlands and Islands area to deliver the programme.  The work will build on activities undertaken in the Initiative at the Edge / Iomairt aig an Oir programme with funding coming from a range of sources, including LEADER.  For further details on the proposals, have a look at the HIE press release.
