The big society......but without a pub?

In a move which seems to run directly counter to their Big Society ideas recently promoted in the news media, the UK government has cancelled the community owned pubs support programme.

The programme was only launched in March and was aiming to support 50 communities through the process of community ownership. But it's been cancelled before any money could be distributed. In response, the Plunkett Foundation has called an emergency summit to discuss how communities can be supported to run their local pubs. For further information, see their website.
