The Big Lottery Fund has published research into the impacts of their Growing Community Assets programme.
The research is phase two of of a five year evaluation of community ownership projects. The findings suggest that communities owning their own assets are better able to deliver services which meet the requirements of local people. The 36 projects which were studied are supporting 129 full time jobs, providing accommodation for 80 businesses and have given training to 466 people. The research also found that community-owned assets appeared to be subject to reduced anti-social behaviour and are more flexible to change as communities change.
