The last grants from the Big Lottery's Growing community assets fund have been announced, prior to a re-launch on June 30th, 2010. Meanwhile the Department for Culture, Media and Sport is consulting on its plans to reduce Big's share of the lottery distribution fund to 40% by 2012.

Successful projects in the Growing community assets programme include several community energy schemes.  Funding will go to schemes being undertaken by the West Harris Crofting Trust, the Horshader and the Tolsta Community Wind Developments on Lewis and the development of an anaerobic digester at Kirknewton in West Lothian.  There's also a new building for the Ecology Centre at Kinghorn in Fife, a new community centre in Gairloch and a community cafe in Strichen in Aberdeenshire.

You can read more about the successful projects on the Big website.

Elsewhere, you can respond to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport's consultation on changes in the way money from the National Lottery Distribution Fund is divided between Big, sports, heritage and arts.  Some groups have expressed their concern that the change might result in fewer small community groups obtaining funding.  You can find the consultation here.
