The Big Lottery Fund's Village SOS programme has announced this year's winners, which includes the Scottish communities of Assynt in Sutherland and West Wemyss in Fife.
The Assynt Community Foundation 'Lochinver Mission' project will receive over £400,000 of funding to turn a disused fisherman's mission into a sustainable community hub. The hub will include a visitor centre with accommodation, a cafe and, somewhat unusually, a lobster hatchery.
Villagers in West Wemyss also received funding through the scheme and will convert a disused pub into a community hub. They're hoping to include meeting rooms, a bistro and a shop selling local produce and will also look at the scope for creating allotments and incorporating wind turbines and a woodland burial site outside.
You can find further details on both projects on the Big lottery website and information on the Lochinver Mission on the Assynt Community Foundation website.
