The Islay Energy Trust has published a discussion paper which looks at how to enable communities to invest in large-scale renewable energy projects.
Based on the wealth of renewable energy options around Islay, the discussion paper considers how local community financial involvement in energy projects can add value for all stakeholders. It looks at a lease and toll model which could allow individual and community investment without changing ownership rights. The authors point out that it's a small scale study, which doesn't claim to have all the answers, but hopes to encourage greater discussion.
